Film Synopsis of “Ordinary Angels“→ Inspired by the INCREDIBLE TRUE STORY of a hairdresser named Sharon Stevens (Hilary Swank) who single-handedly rallies an ENTIRE community to help a widowed father, Ed Schmitt (Alan Ritchson) save the life of his critically ill young daughter, Michelle Schmitt (Emily Mitchell)!
What Makes Ordinary Angels?
Being ordinary is as important as being distinctive. Use your talents to make a positive impact on others and become an ordinary angel. Every act of kindness matters, and it’s the sincerity of your heart and your willingness to put others first that defines you. Strive to be more like Sharon Stevens and make the world a better place, one small act of kindness at a time. Caring more about someone else than yourself makes you not only ordinary ..but extraordinary!
Sharon’s Zeal for Strength!
Sharon had been going through a lot of personal challenges, which were already difficult to handle. However, she took on the added responsibility of helping the Schmitt family raise funds for Michelle’s medical treatment, hospital bills, and Ed’s overdue bills, among other expenses. Sharon even left her job as a hairdresser and her clients to focus all her energy on helping the family and saving Michelle’s life, who needed a liver transplant as soon as possible. It must have taken an immense amount of strength, determination, and sacrifice to do all of this every day. On top of all this, Sharon was also dealing with a strained relationship with her son, Derek.
The Schmitt Hospital Bill/s
The scene with Sharon and the hospital team in Ordinary Angels made me feel both emotional and a little clichéd. It reminded me of a similar scene in Denzel Washington’s “John Q,” where the only way to avoid paying hospital bills is to appeal to the administrators’ sense of humanity. I can never fathom how hospitals can overcharge patients! It’s outrageous to me! Unfortunately, medical insurance is necessary today, but some people can’t afford it, and hospitals need to remember that their priority is saving lives.
Snowstorm Stops. Faith Knocks.
God tests us to determine the worthiness of His blessings, and He is omnipresent, like DNA. Faith is the key to passing His tests, and although many Christians struggle with it, we must remain steadfast and never lose faith in ourselves or God, even in the face of adversity. During moments of despair, we must not give up and isolate ourselves, but instead, take inspiration from ordinary angels who demonstrate unwavering faith. For instance, when Ed received the call to take his daughter Michelle to the hospital during a snowstorm, he had to have faith that they would make it. This example shows that faith can save lives.
Closing Conclusions
This was an inspiring movie about a woman who found the inner strength to stay sober and help a family she had never met before. She did incredible things like galvanizing a community, raising money, and finding airplanes. The ending was perfect & I don’t think that I could have written a better ending myself if I tried!
I truly love the way that you captured the real heart of a person where nothing was impossible because she had the faith to believe in GOD because she knew that it was something bigger than her. She had unstoppable faith in wavering faith. Show a little kindness; it has a ripple effect just like skipping stones in the river. Thanks Trav.

Yes, Unicorn –
This was a very profound film that I think all people should see! I ABSOLUTELY love and respect movies just like this!!!
Sometimes stuff happens in your life, where you feel like you have to make things happen, and in some type of way, your influence/actions help whatever that cause is. When things like that happen, it’s no coincidence it was meant for you to be there. The sacrifices she made to help that family was like you said extraordinary. Good review! Got me wondering what ended up happening with her, and her son.
Thank you for the insightful remarks/comments! I always look forward to your remarks because they bounce right off of my entire reviews – full of insight and they have deep meaning behind the words. What happens with her son …I think you know deep down…
