What’s “Anyone But You” About?

Anyone But You

After an amazing first date, Bea (Sydney Sweeney) & Ben’s (Glen Powell) fiery attraction to one another turns ice cold – until they find themselves unexpectedly reunited at a destination wedding in Australia. So, they do what any two mature adults would do in this type of delicate situation: they pretend to be a couple!

THIS IS…The Romantic Comedy of 2023

Photo20231210 142458 minI could not get enough of this Ben and Bea! NOT NOW. Certainly not ever! Yes, the movie was quite predictable, but it was by far the sweetest, goofiest, sweetest, adorable, drop-dead hilarious rom-com I have seen since maybe “The Proposal with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds! Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney lit up the screen with their on-screen chemistry spark! They were magical when they hated each other, magical when they pretended to like each other, and magical when they were falling for each other because let’s face it.

We all knew that was going to happen! “Anyone But You” is a movie in which you can lounge on the couch with your special someone and cuddle up with and love and laugh at the silliest things that Powell and Sweeny do to amuse us, but those goofy acts that they do to prove to everyone they were an item proved something indeed …and it was that it was them all along!

I’ll Take Anyone But You!

Photo20231210 142419 minThe way that these two met could not have been any more …perfect and adorable for a situational rom-com. It was sheer genius! They played it perfectly as if it was not even rehearsed. Powell & Sweeney are just that spectacular in the film! If you have not seen Anyone But You – YOU need to get to a theater and see it because you do not know what you are missing! In this day in age, it is rare to find that perfect person who completes us because we spend so much time searching and searching and going through so many relationships, we tend to protect our hearts and when a good thing comes our way …we do what Bea does in the film because she is scared to face happiness and accept that something good has landed in her lap. Does she think she is not deserving of that kind of happiness?

Allowing Love In …

Photo20231210 142430 minFaking it is one thing …but when love is real ..you’ll be able to truly feel it, and you will know; that divine revelation will hit you like a bolt of lightning when you know he’s the one or she’s the one. It may take a simple act of someone saying or doing something to make you reflect on what you had all along. That is what makes not only romance but romantic comedies. When you stop to think about it. What is romance? To me, it is a mixture of several ingredients comprised of love, light, laughter, UNpredictability, spontaneity, amazement, and anything that brings passion to your relationship. Who wants to be in a relationship where it is always the same thing with their partner? While watching the film, I implore you to observe if you think Ben has all those qualities I have just listed and then OBSERVE Bea’s ex, Jonathan, and see if you think you know why she chose who she chose.

Ben’s Serenity Song

Photo20231210 142512 minThe song that Ben had to listen to that always brought calm and peace into his life was the BEST song that ever could play in a film such as this one and you WILL want to sing along with it! You just cannot help it. Like I keep on saying – this movie has rom-com and SWEETNESS OVERLOAD SO SO SO SO SO written all over it!

I have to whole heartedly agree with you – a true rom-com as I feel Rom-Coms have faded away except for the streaming movies … most can’t hold up to a theatre environment. I loved the chemistry between the two leads and it was a staple that these two will start popping up more and as they should! Such natural comedic chops! Not just adorable it was downright hilarious against a beautiful backdrop of Australia! A great movie to end 2023 to!
