Report Card Grade & Review

Can We Last …” Until Dawn?”

I have yet to play the video game that inspired this film, but my research shows that the movie’s premise aligns closely with the original game’s concept. After watching the film, it became evident that the similarities between the two are striking, particularly in terms of themes and character dynamics. Keeping yourself knowledgeable at all times of all events that has happened to you in various time loops while trying to figure out what is going on and how to survive and how you got where you are can be too much to bare and one might not be able to be strong enough to last that kind of torment.

Until Dawn Has Some Gore!

When I sat down to watch the movie, I approached it without any specific expectations—neither high hopes nor a sense of dread. I was simply ready to experience the story unfold. However, what struck me most was the intriguing plot: a group of friends finds themselves facing a relentless cycle of death, where they are killed repeatedly throughout the night until dawn. Each time they perish, they come back to life, uncovering clues that reveal the circumstances of their previous deaths. This narrative device creates a sense of urgency as they strive to piece together the mystery of how to survive and ultimately confront the malevolent force pursuing them.

Clover Paul

The protagonist, Clover, in the film played the role exceptionally well, given all that she had to face to save her second family, which was her friends, including herself. I must say, this engaging and well-executed storyline kept my attention. The concept of unraveling the puzzle of survival while navigating the challenges of repeated death is not only captivating but also prompts viewers to think about themes of friendship, resilience, and the impact of choices made in dire situations. Overall, I found the film to be a fascinating exploration of these ideas.

Dr. Alan J. Hill

Dr. Hill played a crucial role in the film. As someone who has never played the game, I realize I missed some of the context behind his games, experiments, and methods of manipulation. Reflecting on this, I wish I had been able to decipher who was truly behind everything and their motivations. The clues were right in front of me, and I believe my unfamiliarity with the video game contributed to my oversight. Life is a series of wins and losses, and while it’s natural to feel frustrated at times, I recognize the importance of learning from these experiences. I also believe in the idea of payback and karma; actions have consequences, and what we put out into the world often comes back to us, sometimes in unexpected ways. It’s a reminder to remain aware of our actions and their potential ripple effects.

  1. This is a very thoughtful and well laid out review. I really like how you discussed the key characters in the film and laid out the plot without giving everything away. I do think that you would have given a higher grade for the film if you had played the game too.

    1. You might have a point—if I had played the actual video game, your observation would likely hold. However, I want to express my gratitude for taking the time to read my review and for complimenting my writing style. It means a lot to me. I also want to highlight that I have a strong commitment to avoiding spoilers in my reviews, as I believe it’s important for readers to experience the game for themselves without prior knowledge of key plot points or surprises. Thank you once again for your feedback!
