Film Synopsis of “The Watchers” → A young artist (Dakota Fanning) gets stranded in an extensive, immaculate forest in Western Ireland, where, after finding shelter, she becomes trapped alongside three strangers, stalked by creatures each night!
Who or What Are “The Watchers”?
So, did the characters in the film live up to your initial impressions? If your assumptions were spot on, kudos to you! This movie is like a maze, leading you in all directions and challenging your thoughts. Writing a review on this film will be a real task, especially since I actually “watched” it. Truth be told, the film had a solid premise, but it dragged until the very end when everything finally fell into place. The burning question is, can you be the vigilant detective to navigate this complex story and make it out alive… as the Watchers?
The Coop
What do you personally call a haven for yourself? Do you have a name of a secret place or a place where you go to rejuvenate or to …as they say, “re-charge your batteries?” Well for Mina, Ciara, Daniel, & Madeline their haven from the Watchers was only one place – and that was a place known as The Coop and there … was one lady who had been there for what seemed like an eternity because she knew everything about the area they were trapped in as if it was some sort of alternate or parallel universe; the rules to follow; mainly, Madeline was the Alpha of the Coop. Would that sendoff red flags to you if you were a newcomer to a situation such as this one if you were…
…Mina
Certainly, Mina is the main character in the movie from the beginning, and it is very clearly illustrated that she is determined, a survivor, a fighter, and has the strong will and determination to seek answers and not just sit around and wait for answers to come to her. She is a go-getter character, and it shows through her strong initiatives to assist her fellow people trapped in the Coop by the Watchers. She does not sit idly back and take what Madeline and the others have brainwashed each other with, even if it is true and they try to protect her. She still wants to validate for herself if what they are saying is true, and if it is or is not, she will fight to get out and back to her life, the reality that she knows.
The Final Analysis of The Watchers
The film’s final analysis left me feeling that it wasn’t boring, but rather, it was misunderstood. To provide some context, this film marks the directorial debut of M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter. To be candid, I often find Shyamalan’s films to be very intricate and puzzling. On the other hand, I would still choose his films over those of Jordan Peele. This is because Peele’s films tend to mess with your mind, leaving you to seek further explanations online after the credits roll. Overall, my take on the film is that it’s just average. While you can certainly watch it if you’re interested, I don’t believe it’s a movie that demands to be seen right away!
A movie that’s puzzling and can pique the interest, depends on what type of movie’s a person likes, can be right up their alley. First time director’s is kind of good to watch their movie’s to see if they have the same type of fell, like I know it was “this” person’s movie. Good review, gave me some insight about something I was wondering about.
Yeah, this is quite the movie that really takes you on the twisted turn of events!
I look forward to seeing the Watchers. Thanks for your review.
Thanks, Brijette! As you coud tell, I really did not like it as much, but was this movie really on your list to see?
