Film Synopsis of “Babes” → When Eden (Ilana Glazer), an aggressively single woman, gets pregnant from a one-night stand, she turns to her best friend Dawn (Michelle Buteau), a married mother of two, for help.
The Babes: Dawn & Eden
It’s truly evident that Dawn and Eden share a bond that goes beyond friendship; they are like family. It’s exceptionally rare to find two individuals who have grown up together, gone to school together, and remained inseparable into adulthood. Their interconnectedness and continued involvement in each other’s lives, even as they pursue their paths, is truly remarkable. When they each have children, they desire for their kids to experience the same deep connection they once shared. This kind of friendship is a true blessing, and it’s a testament to the fact that family isn’t solely defined by blood. It’s often the case that the people you can truly rely on aren’t necessarily your blood relatives, and this is a poignant truth of life. Families bound not by blood but by genuine closeness, like Dawn and Eden, exemplify the very essence of what it means to be family.
Claude
Do you believe in the possibility of finding a meaningful connection from a one-night stand? Can you unexpectedly find your soulmate or a special someone? Should you be judged for acting on a strong connection with someone you just met? These are the questions Eden faced when she met Claude on the subway. True friends, or ‘family’, always offer honest advice, not just what you want to hear. Honesty is key in relationships. Love can find you when you least expect it, just like it did for Eden and Claude.
This Is Destiny’s Child! Oh Yeah!!
In the film, Eden stands out as a charismatic character. Her uninhibited, free-spirited nature, mirrored by her best friend Dawn, contributes to their status as two of the film’s most captivating personalities. When Eden discovered her pregnancy, she grappled with uncertainty, oscillating between moments of confidence and doubt. Her humorous declaration that “this baby is my destiny. It’s “destiny’s child,” followed by an impromptu dance, elicited amusement. The actress portraying Eden displayed exceptional on-screen chemistry with Michelle Buteau, who portrayed Dawn.
The Conclusions of Babes
I feel that the film was more about friends who are like family is what the movie was about more than anything else. That was the underlying message to me that I saw while watching it. Sure, it had some X-rated humor, and it was very clear that these two actresses had the magic, and this film reminded me of Knocked Up with Katherine Heigl only the vagina was never shown in this one (spoiler alert). But the fact that it warmed and pricked at my heart simply because even though they did not see eye to eye on one thing, they did come together when it mattered the most and that is what brought a teat of joy and happiness to my eye because not all friends will fight for their friendship and admit their wrongs. So, from my boy and girl coloring – what did you think Eden had?
I was thinking it sounded like “Knocked Up” 😭 LOL. I’ve not seen trailers for this one! Sounds like a good one!!!
Oh, my yes! This was SERIOUSLY a HOT RED X movie!
I absolutely love Michelle but I heard this was a tough one trying to sell it as a comedy when it’s more drama. Friends are so important to have in life!
Precisely! Good friends are very rare and hard to find!
This one was not my cuppa tea. The situations were ridiculously over the top and groan worthy. This could have been a clever take on friendship but instead it mocked a close friendship. Oh well, can’t win them all with screen unseen. THELMA made up for it!
I really understood the overall concept of the film and it reminded me off “Knocked Up.” Did you ever see that movie with Katherine Heigl? I also agree with you that this film was over the top – but like I said in my review, I felt that it was about friendship & you can never go wrong with having an underlying message about friendship because that is the “essence of life.” Haivng someone to in your life to rely on.
