GRADE: [B-]
I have to write this just to start – I love and totally admire the way that my “grade” matches professional online movie critics and I do not even get paid for writing my reviews. I saw that this movie is given a grade of a “B” that I gave it on a scale of A thru F. It just gives me further proof that I KNOW what I am talking about when I watch movies and what to look for. This was not Jolie’s finest work here – I must say.
The movie was not raw, but there were a diverse amount of scenes that were brutal to watch & I cannot even imagine being in these characters’ shoes in real life or let alone – acting to have to fight to survive the predicaments that they had to endure – or to be in – in order to survive from anyone and everything for that matter! It was about a fight to survive; this movie. That is what it was all about! I wish I could be strong like these actors!
This was not Jolie’s finest work, but she did deliver in the film; just not up to par. There were some holes in the story that you might think will not get filled in, but they will. I was thinking that too. I cannot say that about a lot of movies, honestly. I only wish Jolie could have acted better in her role! I only wish I could have been there to fight with them only if I could wish it was for pretend!
There are ZERO gaps and you must be able to follow along and not have a “sudden restroom break” because then you will lose track of the story-line and miss crucial information to figure out why Jack & Patrick did what they HAD to do and then wish why the orders where issued out by their boss which was played by Tyler Perry. If I could make one wish, it would be to have Perry not be in this film!
I HAVE HAVE HAVE to expound on this…I cannot even call it a role because he was seen for 5 minutes in the film and that was it. THAT IS NOT A ROLE IN A MOVIE TO ME. Perry CANNOT play a villain; he can never play a tough guy role. He was so plain and boring in the 5 minutes he was on screen in the ONE and ONLY scene that he was in to be truthful with you.
He has no emphasis in his acting expect when he is playing a woman as Madea – he places ALL emphasis in that! Finally, the little boy who portrayed the role of Connor, he did a magnificent job – but what he had to endure to complete what his father asked of him was _______!
You will have to fill it in because I literally cannot. What he had to witness, suffer, and endure, and just live with all at such a very young age after all is said, and done is just mind-blowing to me!
You may think that the woman (PICTURED ABOVE) playing Ethan’s wife is Actress Viola Davis, and Lord knows, I kept thinking so also that I had to pull my cell out in the middle of the movie to make sure I was NOT crazy, but it is NOT her, but she could sure as hell be her exact twin sister! She KNOWS how to act and survive under extreme pressure and distress! She was total bad-ass!
In conclusion, the movie is very powerful and gives you an adrenaline rush – the action is present…That is for sure! The fight to survive is real….the fire is real….the passion and will to survive is real….and the truth WILL set you free!
“This one was pretty average but it had some action that was totally awesome, I must admit!” #TonightWithTrav
