Report Card Grade & Review
The Presence + The Family Dinner
This family was anything but conventional. As they gathered around the dinner table for their first meal together, the air was thick with unspoken tension. Chloe sat quietly, her thoughts in turmoil as she grappled with the overwhelming sadness of losing her best friend, Nadia. Her heart ached with every bite, and the laughter and chatter around her felt like a distant echo. At the head of the table was Rebekah, Chloe’s mother, brought to life by Lucy Liu’s expressive charisma.
What is This Presence You Speak Of?
I went into this movie with low expectations. It was tough to watch because it felt like a reality show, with scenes cut off and on every 5 to 10 minutes, similar to “Paranormal Activity.” I disliked this approach; while I can appreciate the writers’ attempt to be innovative, the constant blackouts were frustrating, and I found myself huffing in my seat. I can understand the title being called “presence” for the simple fact is that there was someone or something in the house watching things, but it’s never actually seen or revealed like Mark Wahlberg’s 2008 film, “The Happening.” In that film, the wind was the evil or the antagonist and it was never seen – just like in this film!
Rebekah: The Mother.
Rebekah almost always perpetually distracted, her attention drifting toward her phone and work-related tasks, leaving Chloe feeling abandoned in her time of need. It appeared that Rebekah was either unwilling or unable to address the heavy burden weighing on her daughter’s heart. Chloe felt lost in a spiral of grief, desperately wanting to discuss her emotions but feeling invisible in the process.
Then, as if the universe had decided it was time for a shift, an unexpected event unfolded during one family dinner. In an instant, the atmosphere changed, and the tension that had enveloped Chloe began to dissolve, opening the door to a new conversation that would alter their lives forever!
Look Into The Mirror …
Strangely enough, if you can sit through this disaster of what people call a movie, you will understand the ending and its significance. I will have to admit that the film is seriously flawed, but the final ending scene is symbolic in a way and I want to explain it to you ..but I have a sacred vow to never give spoilers even on films that suck as bad as this …
I’m looking forward to seeing this movie thanks for taking the time to do a review and give your thoughts and feedback.
Of course – its always my pleasure ..but honestly, don’t look forward to seeing it – put it in your rearview. It was not that good or appealing!
