“Honey Don’t” …. You Know You Won’t!!!

“Honey Don’t” Plot: A dark comedy about Honey O’Donahue (Margaret Qualley), a small-town private investigator, who delves into a series of strange deaths tied to a mysterious church.
“Private Eye” Honey O’Donahue
Qualley has previously teamed up with the Coen Brothers in their unique lesbian B-movie trilogy, and now they have come together again for the 2024 film “Drive Away Dolls.” In this intriguing film, she takes on the role of a private detective, navigating a world filled with mystery and unexpected twists. However, I found myself questioning the film’s coherence, as several prominent plot holes left me scratching my head. It felt like I was wandering through a complex maze, desperately trying to piece together the narrative, yet I ultimately lost my way.
Reverend Drew Devlin
Reverend Devlin was truly a devilish figure, embodying the essence of a demonic character that left a lasting impression. Chris Evans delivered an outstanding and unforgettable performance, making his character the standout of the film. His portrayal elicited expressions of shock and disbelief from the audience. One can’t help but question: what kind of preacher engages in such dubious activities? This led me to reflect on the current state of society, where some of the most egregious hypocrites continue to inhabit church pews, masquerading as devoutly religious. As the Bible warns, they are “ferocious wolves dressed in sheep’s clothing.”
What Pastor Devlin was engaged in was not only a blatant violation of ethics but also a troubling depiction of morality. To see such actions represented on-screen by someone who is purportedly a man of faith prompts a profound sense of unease. It raises significant concerns about how our culture chooses to represent figures of the cloth, leaving me to ponder why anyone would want to embody a religious leader in such a disheartening and questionable manner.
Click Clackin’ Heels
Everyone could hear Honey approaching long before she arrived; the distinct sound of her heels clicking and clacking against the floor echoed through the hallway. She relished the attention, purposefully making her entrance loud and noticeable—after all, she wanted everyone to be aware of her presence, or at least to feel a sense of urgency as she focused on them!
Are you the kind of person who seeks to make your arrival known, ensuring others are prepared for your presence? Is it truly wise to position yourself ten steps ahead of everyone else, striving to outmaneuver them at any cost? After all, what does it mean to win, and is it worth the effort to always be in front?
Sweet on Honey?
Despite some of the challenges presented in the film, I must admit that I found the overall experience quite enjoyable. Some moments genuinely made me laugh, showcasing the filmmakers’ ability to blend humor with drama. Additionally, certain scenes took unexpected twists that left me utterly shocked. These surprises were twists I certainly didn’t see coming as I sat in the theater, fully immersed in the story.
Overall, “Honey, Don’t” felt like a thrilling rollercoaster ride, filled with ups and downs that kept my attention throughout. Even though the plot was somewhat elusive and left me questioning some aspects, the film’s unique style and entertaining execution made it worthwhile. It certainly provided a memorable cinematic experience that stayed with me long after the credits rolled.
When I saw the trailer I thought of Chris Evans when he was in “Not Another Teen Movie”. I saw that when I was younger but I still laughed my ass off at it. I knew this one would be funny too!
Oh, this one was funny – and rather unbelievable to be hardcore brutally honest with you, my man!
Not even this review has encouraged me to see this one -pass!
Well, now! I guess alls that I can say to that is …”Honey, Don’t!” 🤣
